Tax return checklist
Gather these before your appointment and most individual returns are finished in a single sitting. We will provide secure instructions for sending identification and tax records.

Identity and basics
- Photo ID and tax file number for new clients
- Bank account details for your refund
- Spouse name, date of birth and taxable income if you have a partner
Income
- Employer names. Income statements are usually pre-filled from the ATO by late July
- Bank interest, dividends and managed fund statements
- Details of shares or crypto sold during the year
- Any ABN, contractor or gig income
- Government payments and foreign income
Possible work-related expenses
- Receipts for tools, equipment, uniforms, registrations and union fees
- Hours worked from home for the year
- Work kilometres or a 12 week logbook if you use your car for work
- Phone and internet work-use percentage
- Self-education costs related to your current job
- Donations of two dollars or more to organisations endorsed as deductible gift recipients
- Income protection insurance held outside super
Other items
- Private health insurance details, usually pre-filled from the ATO. Ask your insurer for a statement only if it is missing
- HECS or other study loan, just confirm you have one
- Last year's return or notice of assessment if it was prepared elsewhere
